Advanced Tail-Light Warning and Illumination System
Due to the physiologic delay in reaction time, even the attentive human eyes and
brain are unable to effect musculoskeletal movement instantaneously. It is only
when we sense the vehicle ahead of us slowing or its brake lights illuminating
that we typically realize the need to apply our brakes. Even a one-second delay
at 60 mph translates to an additional 88 feet of distance, which could have been
available for braking or accident avoidance.
Government studies have shown that if reaction time could be decreased by one
whole second, 95% of accidents would be eliminated. It is a well-known fact from
the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute
that rear-end collisions account for the majority of accidents resulting in
tremendous loss of property and serious injuries. In 2001 State Farm Insurance
alone paid out over $20 billion in collision claims, mostly from rear-end
accidents. As of April 2002, there are 18.5 million licensed drivers over the
age of 70 in the U.S. and that number will only grow. At the other end of the
spectrum, an ever-growing number of young inexperienced drivers are getting
their licenses for the first time. In Florida, while only 6% of the drivers are
teenagers, they cause 11% of the fatalities. Eight people die in Florida in
vehicle wrecks every day; one of the eight is a teenager and three of the eight
were killed due to someone driving DUI. These statistics all point to an urgent
need for a more effective warning system. LED lights, with their faster
illumination, claim a reduction of reaction time of only 200 msec. Dr. Lin’s
advanced tail-light warning and illumination system can shave an entire second
(1000 msec) OR MORE off the breaking reaction time. Amazingly, this system would
add only $2 to $3 to the cost but result in a FAR superior product that no
rational consumer would not gladly pay an extra $100 or more.
Clear View Demisting and Ventilation System
The uneven demisting of windshields and buildup of ice particles beneath the
wiper blades are common problems in cold climates; and the uneven demisting is a
problem also in warm humid climates whenever it rains. These problems pose
serious hazards and contribute to many accidents and injury. Dr. Lin had created
an innovative and guaranteed-effective system that is cost neutral or adds only
a few dollars to implement.
